In part two of our four part SEO series we’re covering technical best practices for SEO. Be sure to like our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter to catch the entirety of the SEO Tips and Tools Series.

Heading Tags and Images
Utilize your H1 Headline to help express the importance the keyword you are targeting for your webpage. The H1 tag will also indicate the topic of your webpage for the search engines. Content (and keyword(s)) in the H1 tag will be given a slightly higher rank than other content on the page.

When including images on your webpage, it is best practice to include a keyword in your Alt Text. Although you may recognize what the image is expressing, the search spider isn’t able to recognize images. Instead we must include some text to help the spider understand the image.

Algorithm Updates
Google is notoriously known for their consistent algorithm updates. Recently, Google announced a new algorithm that is designed to return more meaningful and personalized search results. Be aware of these updates and make sure that your optimized website is following the updated algorithm to continue ranking well in the search engines.

Keyword Happy
This is something that inexperienced people in SEO tend to do. Most of us want to rank #1 in Google and have read in many blogs to include our most relevant and targeted keywords on our website. But don’t get keyword happy. Adding many instances of your targeted keywords can actually hurt your sites performance in the Search Engines. It is important that you optimize your website for both the user and the search engine and each page has content the flows naturally with the keywords.
